“What makes us feel drawn to music is that our whole being is music, our mind and our body, the nature in which we live, the nature that has made us, all that is beneath and around us, it is all music; and we are close to all this music, and live and move and have our being in music” Hazrat Inayat Khan All of creation is vibrating. The music of the spheres is real all the way from the quark, to our lives, to the stars, to the galaxies. David Hykes and His Harmonic Choir through their explorations and their practice have found a way to access and illuminate this music. This is music for discovery, for meditation and for healing. “Harmonic Chant is an enlightenment-dedicated musical practice, a universal sacred music open to all, centered on the possibility that the heart can open to its true, deepest level, that the mind can find its luminous original nature, and that harmony is omnipresent” David Hykes from the notes to Harmonic Meditations.
The Harmonic Choir was formed by David Hykes in 1976. An accomplished experimental filmmaker with a deep interest in traditional and sacred music, Hykes had already acquired broad familiarity with the music of West and Central Asia when he first heard the Hoomi singing (literally, “throat singing”) indigenous to western Mongolia, and the overtone chanting of Tantric Tibetan Buddhism. His music diverges from these traditional styles to explore the universe of sound through vocal harmonic structures. Hearing Solar Winds is a truly unique recording and unlike anything you have ever heard. A profoundly moving experience. 1.
